Helldivers 2 makes it easy to play cooperatively with people using different platforms, but that convenience does not extend to shared progression. Players who have spent hours collecting Helldivers 2 Samples, unlocking equipment, and completing Warbonds may naturally wonder whether their progress can move with them when they switch systems. Unfortunately, Helldivers 2 currently has no cross-save or cross-progression feature, meaning progress earned on one platform cannot simply be continued on another.
Understanding the Platform System
Helldivers 2 supports crossplay, which is excellent news for players who want to enjoy the game with friends using different systems. PlayStation confirms that PC and PS5 players can play together, while the game's official crossplay announcement emphasized cooperation between platforms.
Crossplay, however, only determines who can play together. It does not determine where your personal progression is stored.
Cross progression would allow your game state to follow you between platforms. For example, you could complete missions on PC in the evening and continue the same character on PS5 the next day. Helldivers 2 does not currently offer that experience.
Why This Matters to Long Term Players
Progression is an important part of Helldivers 2. As players complete operations, they gain access to more equipment and resources while developing their collection of weapons, armor, stratagems, and other rewards.
Because this progress does not transfer between platforms, changing systems can create a significant difference between your old and new versions of the game.
A player who has spent months playing on PS5 should not expect their PC installation to automatically recognize all of their existing unlocks. Likewise, someone with a highly developed PC account cannot simply purchase the PS5 version and continue from exactly the same point.
Does Steam to PSN Linking Fix It?
No. This is perhaps the most important detail for players considering a platform switch.
Arrowhead explains that linking a Steam account with a PlayStation Network account does not enable cross progression. The connection between the accounts should therefore not be interpreted as a shared save system.
This distinction is easy to miss because account linking can make the platforms feel more connected. Nevertheless, the underlying game progression remains separate.
Players should also avoid assuming that customer support can manually combine two profiles. Arrowhead states that support cannot merge accounts or transfer progression, Warbonds, or other items from one account to another.
What Happens to DLC and Limited Content?
The restriction also affects more than ordinary gameplay progression. According to Arrowhead, DLC and limited-time content are not transferred when players begin playing on another platform or account.
This could matter to players who have accumulated special cosmetics, promotional rewards, or other content over a long period.
Before buying the game again on another system, it is therefore worth considering how much content you have already unlocked. If your main goal is simply playing with friends, crossplay may already provide what you need without requiring you to move your personal progression.
Is There Any Way to Transfer Your Account?
Currently, there is no official method for transferring your Helldivers 2 progression from one platform to another. Players cannot request an account merge to combine their progress, and Arrowhead's support team cannot make individual exceptions.
This means there is no reliable workaround that allows a player to turn a PS5 save into a PC save or vice versa.
The safest approach is to choose one primary platform and treat that platform as the home for your progression.
What Could Happen in the Future?
Features and platform support can change over the lifespan of an online game. However, players should not make plans around a potential future feature. Arrowhead's current support documentation says that the studio has no plans to implement cross progression at this time.
Until an official announcement changes that position, players should assume that platform-specific progression will remain separate.
Final Thoughts
Helldivers 2 provides strong crossplay support, but it does not currently provide cross progression. You can join friends on other supported platforms without difficulty, yet your own unlocks, Warbonds, and other progression will not follow you when you switch systems. If you have invested substantial time into collecting Helldivers 2 Super Credits, weapons, cosmetics, and other rewards, staying on your established platform is the best way to preserve your existing progression.
